Yan Cynthia Chen's sculptures and installations elicit emotions and narratives using the language of materiality and form. Her process of model making using common utilitarian materials like produce packaging, become the vocabulary of forms that transform into larger sculptures. Her sculptures play with the human scale- from the microscopic cell, to bones in the body, furniture, and architectural elements.
Chen is based in Brooklyn. She received a BFA in Sculptures from the Rhode Island School of Design and participated in Yale Norfolk Summer Residency. She exhibited an installation titled Name at 1713 Space in Brooklyn. She participated in group shows at Proto Gallery and Westbeth Gallery.
