Empty Stomach

“Empty Stomach”

2017

34 x 33 x 24 inches

Paper clay, mesh, silicone, foam, wire, plaster and wood

This is a diorama of imagined celestial bodies includes material experiments of produce netting that illustrate planets, moons, comets, intestines and an inverted green egg. These forms are distorted in the curved reflection as viewers walk around it. The amorphous distortion is like the moving contents inside the stomach. This sculpture is a formal exploration that plays with scale to express how distance and longing feel inside my body, particularly when craving a food from childhood.
