Raised Hair

“Raised Hair”

2019

12.5 x 18 x 19 inches

Foam, plaster, Aquaresin, paper clay, ping pong balls, wire, and wood

Nestling components derived from egg cartons illustrate the skin’s interior and exterior. The protective arches cradle eggs that are industrially produced. This adaptation of a skin sample model, is composed of ping pong balls nestled in egg carton forms and foam, with wire penetrating through the layers. Merging an artistic and a medical approach to looking closely at parts of the body, these recognizable and abstracted forms illustrate the uncanny sensation of raised hair, an involuntary response of the body when encountering something grotesque.
